Clean-up: Waxine’s denatured alcohol (Shellac Thinner)
Used for generations by finishing experts, this versatile product can be used as a both a sealant base coat and a varnish. It comes in crystal form to be dissolved in Waxine's Denatured Alcohol – Shellac Thinner. Dissolution times can vary widely depending on the type and grade of shellac used.
Preparation:
Surface should be exempt of dust, grease or any other finishing product. Sand well to obtain a surface as smooth as possible. Dust well.
Suggested dilutions:
Base coat:
50g of shellac per 500ml of Waxine’s denatured alcohol (Shellac Thinner).
Combine well until complete dissolution (15 minutes to 48 hours depending of the type and shellac grade).
Varnish:
200g to 300g of shellac per 1 litre of Waxine’s denatured alcohol.
Combine well until complete dissolution (10 minutes to 48 hour depending of the type and shellac grade).
Application:
Base coat
Wood must be clean and dry. Apply with Woodworkers Polishing Cotton following the direction of the wood grain. Allow 30 minutes do dry, and proceed with desired staining.
Varnish
Wood must be clean and dry. Apply, with a varnish-type brush, following the direction of the wood grain. Apply as many coats as necessary to obtain desired finish. Drying time between coats: 20 minutes. For extra smooth finish: Lightly sand coats with ultra-fine sanding paper (grade 600 or higher).
